Smile City Square
Dental Office Interior Design
IDIBC AWARD OF EXCELLENCE – HEALTHCARE DESIGN
Inspired by Dr. Mah’s philosophy of “Enriching lives — one smile at a time,” the design of his new dental practice reflects a sense of calm, clarity, and quiet optimism. The existing space featured a dramatic 40-foot ceiling height, offering the opportunity to create an open, light-filled environment that enhances patient comfort from arrival through treatment. To balance this vertical volume with a more intimate human scale, select areas—including consultation rooms, treatment support spaces, and restrooms—were designed with lowered ceiling planes to create a sense of comfort and enclosure.
Architectural wood beams and a custom-designed torii gate further articulate the space, introducing warmth and visual rhythm while helping to bring the tall volume down to a more approachable scale. Thoughtfully integrated lighting, suspended art mobiles above the operatories, and bamboo-inspired elements subtly reference Zen principles while establishing a distinctive spatial identity.
The completed environment embodies Dr. Mah’s gentle and attentive approach to patient care—an interior that feels calm, welcoming, and authentically aligned with both practitioner and patient.
“Angela has a gift for truly interpreting a client’s ideas and transforming them into reality. She is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. Her clients’ concerns are Angela’s priority, and this provided invaluable peace of mind from the beginning of the project through completion. I welcome the opportunity to work with Angela again.”
