PACIFIC NORTHWEST COASTAL RESIDENCE
Residential Interior Architecture & Design
This distinctive custom residence was conceived as a fully integrated architectural and interior design project, with the exterior architecture and interior spaces developed simultaneously to create a cohesive home defined by proportion, craftsmanship, and architectural continuity. Our studio led the design vision for both the exterior architecture and interior environments, working in collaboration with the project’s structural designer for the preparation of permit and structural drawings.
The architecture reflects a refined Northwest interpretation of turn-of-the-century coastal design, combining shingled and horizontal siding, natural stone, custom mouldings and trimwork, and a seaside-inspired paint palette with carefully detailed columns, eave returns, roof vents, pergola structures, and a porch topped with a custom copper portico roof. Expansive windows and glass doors were selected to frame the surrounding landscape while bringing an abundance of natural light deep into the home.
Extensive custom millwork and architectural detailing define the interiors. Coffered and box-beam ceilings, paneled wainscoting, tailored mouldings, and a finely detailed open staircase connect the primary living spaces to the second floor. All cabinetry and built-ins were custom designed, including the expansive kitchen and butler’s pantry, fireplace surrounds, window seats, bookcases, art niches, game room with wet bar, home offices, walk-in closets, and a comprehensive guest suite with kitchen. Lighting design and power plans were developed in tandem with architectural detailing to ensure visual cohesion and functional performance.
Finishes were carefully curated to reinforce the home’s coastal character, including light oak hardwood flooring, quartz and natural stone surfaces, handcrafted tiles, decorative and architectural lighting, timeless hardware, and a fresh coastal-inspired color palette. Designer wallcoverings introduce texture and visual richness throughout the home, from organic, nature-inspired patterns in the entry foyer, powder bath, and bedrooms to the vibrant accent in the otherwise utilitarian laundry room. Client furnishings and artwork from their previous residence were incorporated into the design, while furniture selection itself was outside the scope of work.
“Angela took our ideas and early sketches for our new home and led us through the entire design, permitting, bidding, and construction process. She took the time to understand and deliver on our vision while ensuring that our dream home could be constructed in a cost-effective manner. She brought ideas and concepts we would not have imagined on our own. She was extremely responsive and worked well with our builder and others involved in the final package. We strongly encourage anyone looking for a full-service designer to contact Angela.”
