Perched on a hilltop in Ashland, Oregon, this custom residence was conceived as a fully integrated interior architectural project, blending Pacific Northwest Craftsman design with the quiet restraint of Asian Zen aesthetics. The clients, members of the recording industry, envisioned a home that would celebrate their love of Asian art while creating a warm and refined environment for both daily living and entertaining.
The design emphasizes natural materials and custom craftsmanship. Rich walnut hardwood flooring, custom millwork, stone surfaces, and carefully detailed cabinetry establish a cohesive architectural framework throughout the home. Thoughtful lighting design, refined hardware, curated artwork, and finely woven textiles introduce warmth and texture while reinforcing the home’s serene and contemplative atmosphere.
The main living areas were conceived as an open composition connecting the kitchen, dining, and living spaces to highlight expansive views of the Siskiyou Mountains. Custom ceilings, architectural display niches, and tailored built-ins were designed to showcase the collection while maintaining visual continuity across the open interior. Large windows and sliding glass doors extend the living spaces to terraces and outdoor entertaining areas overlooking the Rogue Valley.
A separate, private primary suite was designed as a quiet retreat within the home. Entered through its own hall, the suite includes a spacious bedroom oriented toward the surrounding landscape, a dedicated home gym, a luxurious primary bathroom, and a custom walk-in closet with extensive built-in cabinetry. The layout provides both privacy and a calm, restorative atmosphere while maintaining the architectural language established throughout the residence.
Throughout the home, custom cabinetry, built-ins, and architectural detailing were tailored to the clients’ lifestyle and collections. The result is a composed and harmonious environment where natural materials, refined craftsmanship, and thoughtful planning create a home that is both sophisticated and deeply personal.
